Mr. Trouble

What does a 1 1/2 year old do when he's able to sneak into the bathroom and wreck havoc? Squirt body lotion all over the bathroom of course and then finger paint in it!

What does a 3 year old say when she sees it? "Genius!" (Not really sure where that came from or what she meant by it as she said it disapprovingly!)

(And what does a 4 year old one day from her 5th birthday talk incessantly about? Her birthday of course!)

18 months and a rascal!

Timmy is 18 months now and what a rascal! He is ALL boy! He loves to throw things, hit things, run around, climb.... and dunk Mommy's phone into the girls cup of milk! I walked into the kitchen yesterday morning to find my phone submerged in milk! Naturally, I'm not eligible for an upgrade until 8/2, but luckily I had an old phone I could use in the meantime! My rascal is making thunder sounds from his high chair at the moment, covered in yogurt! (Thankfully, we are getting rain right now! Hopefully it'll help cool off this oppressive 100 degree weather! Yesterday my car thermometer read 104! Our yard is turning brown from the heat, so this rain is very welcome!)

Bouncing Baby!

My first OB appt was yesterday morning! I can't believe I'm starting those again! After checking around fora heartbeat with the doppler for a few minutes, the Midwife couldn't seem to find a heartbeat. Apparently that's not terribly unusual for 10 weeks, but just to be safe she sent me in for an ultrasound. Thankfully, we found a nice strong heartbeat and a bouncing baby! Even though this is my fourth child, the ultrasounds still never cease to amaze me! Even at 10 weeks old, the baby already has little hands and feet, arms and legs...at one point he/she had it's hands behind it's head, then stretched out nice and tall, then decided to take a nap!

Strawberry Jam Canning Party

Saturday June 9th I hosted a Strawberry Jam Canning Party sponsored by House Party and Ball. Amongst the 6 of us, we canned 30 half pints of strawberry jam in about 3 hours. We had a great time and I must say the jam came out very good!

Deluge of photos!

These photos loaded up in backwards order, so these first are actually the most recent.

The Hamil Family

Please keep the Hamil family in your prayers. All I know is what I read here at this link. My heart aches for them though and this story really hit home. All their children are my children's ages. I can not imagine how empty Mrs. Hamil's arms must feel. I imagine she will feel her child being swept from her arms for the rest of her life!

Traditional Catholic Family Devastated By Tornado

article-1390588-0C44838400000578-48_634x444

What follows is an article from Dailymail about a family left devasted by a recent tornado that ripped through their home in Oklahoma. This morning search and rescue workers located their 3 year old son in a nearby lake--he is now in Heaven. They are a traditional Catholic Family who attend an FSSP parish. If you would like to send a kind note or a donation to the Hamil family here is their parish information:

From
Dailymail: "As the devastating storms ripped their way through the Midwest, an Oklahoma mother did what she thought was best to keep her family safe.

Catherine Hamil, who is four months pregnant, sought refuge in the bath tub with her three young children in their Piedmont home as they waited for the raging tornado.

But as the devastating twister hit their rural house on Tuesday, 30 miles northwest of Oklahoma City, it became clear that no place was safe to hide as the family was torn apart.

Three-year-old Ryan has not been seen since he was torn from his mother’s arms.

His 15-month-old brother was killed and his pregnant mother and five-year old sister are in a critical condition in hospital.

The children's father, Hank, who runs a crop harvesting business, was away when the tornado hit, but has returned to Oklahoma to help with the frantic search for his three-year-old son.

Catherine, 36, is reported to have several broken bones, bruises and cuts. But doctors said they can still feel the heartbeat of her baby, which is due in October.

Rescuers were desperately searching for the missing toddler on Wednesday evening.

Homemade Lemonade- without Lemons!

I just made some delicious lemonade without needing fresh squeezed lemons. It took me all of a few seconds and I had all the ingredients in the house!

The recipe is below.

Rich Simple Syrup for Lemonade

  • 2 cups sugar (you can use any type of white sugar)
  • 1 cups water

Bring one cup of water to a slight boil and whisk in sugar until dissolved. Store in a mason jar once cooled in the refrigerator for up to a month. Use to whip up a batch of lemonade in no time.

You can jazz up simple syrup by adding fresh chopped ginger or fresh chopped mint leaves during the whisking. Strain ginger or mint out before bottling in the fridge. Simple syrup can also be used to sweeten ice tea for a yummy treat!

Note: I always double or triple this so that I don’t have to make it as often.

Easy Homemade Lemonade

  • 1 cup lemon juice (you can purchase this at Aldi or the grocery store)
  • 1/2 to 1 cup Simple Syrup (depending upon your desired sweetness)
  • 4 cups of water

In a pitcher combine lemon juice and simple syrup, stir in water. Serve immediately over ice or refrigerate until ready to use.

Frick and Frack

Any of you who know Frick and Frack will get a kick out of this story. It was a classic Frick and Frack story- fast-forwarded 20 years!

We have our own Frick and Frack in this house! The other day Naomi and Olivia came running to me, Naomi yelling "I don't want to the king! I want to be a mom!" Olivia said, "Naomi you have to be the King!" The following conversation ensued!

O: "How about you be the Queen Naomi!" (real conivingly said of course!)
N: (With her little pocketbook stuffed with "cards" slung over her shoulder) "No! I want to be the Mom!"
Me: "Olivia, Naomi does not need to be the King or Queen. If she wants to be a mom, she can. She doesn't always have to play what you want her to."

Olivia runs away upset and sulking. Naomi and I play a few minutes together. She is the mailman and is bring me all sorts of cards. Olivia returns as Naomi is walking out of the room. Naomi sees her and dejectedly throws her pocketbook down and defeatedly says, "Ok Livia, I'll be the queen...*big sigh*"

O: (Real perky and excited) "Ok! You be the queen and I'll be the letter person!" As she picks up Naomi's off cast "letter bag" pocketbook.

Of course I didn't let her get away with it! It was so classic Frick and Frack though I had to laugh!

This and That

Nothing too new to report here other than we are SWELTERING in this heat! We had bought a portable ac since we have weird windows and can't fit a conventional AC in it. It barely cuts it though. If you sit on the loveseat in the living room between the AC and the fan, you can get relief!

We had a very nice weekend at the lake for the 4th of July. The fireworks were beautiful as usual! Olivia was so disturbed by the noise though that she and I watched them from inside the house. We got to see Mom and Dad, Linds and Ang's pictures from Europe! Made me very jealous :-)

Pete was out mowing the other day and accidentally picked up a rock in the mower which chucked it through our slider. Luckily only the outside pane shattered and is still holding. We've been getting quotes to have the glass replaced. Unfortunately, the doors are all nonstandard sizes (like everything else in this house!) We have one more estimate today, then we can move on with getting it fixed! Of course, not only does nonstandard mean expensive, it also means special order which means a long wait! Ugh!

We're off to Timmy's 18 month check up today! Guess that means I should go get everyone ready!

It has happened....

I was wondering how long it would take before I discovered Timmy in his crib one morning with no diaper on! It was so hot last night that we put him to be in just a diaper. Sure enough, I walked in this morning to a naked baby and a poopy diaper cast to the side. He was quite upset about it and concerned! Not sure if he'll do it again *though he probably will*!
